I agree with Pat. What you experienced was likely a late period. Although you are always regular, your period can change at any given moment-- it is not something that we as women should expect to never change because we may drive ourselves crazy along the way. Sometimes you will see that your period may be lighter, heavier, moderate, a few days early, a few days late-- the point is that as long as you get your period, you should be okay.
Bleeding is not a sign of pregnancy. Too many women have heard that you can bleed while being pregnant and while this is true, you will more than likely get a positive pregnancy test before any bleeding occurs. Spotting in very early pregnancy is a different story-- it is usually a light pink to brown spotting that is caused by implantation and should by no means be heavy.
