There is a difference between the pills you were expecting, and the pills that your doctor prescribed to you. I'm surprised your doctor did not talk with you about this different prescription, but I assume s/he talked with you about your symptoms, and felt that the Ocella was not needed (however...s/he should have still talked with you about what your new prescription is!)

Ocella contains estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) and a progestin (drospirenone), and this combination not only prevents pregnancy, but also treats moderate acne and PMDD. PMDD is a severe form of PMS, so unless you are experiencing PMS symptoms plus anxiety or other conditions, this birth control would most likely not be a good match.

Microgestin contains estrogen (same type as above) and a progestin (norethindrone), whose combination prevents pregnancy. (It is not marketed as also treating acne or PMS/PMDD, although many hormonal birth controls do help with acne).

Does this help?
