Dont do what you mostly see on the internet and I even had PT telling me the wrong thing to do. After 8 yrs of that, I ended up in surgery.

I only found out after surgery, mostly everyone is wrong!

The piriformis muscle is a small muscle that we dont even need. And your Glute muscel is a very lazy muscle. The piriformis muscle has a Napoleon attitude. it thinks it is big and mighty and its not. It tends to overdo it. And since the Gulte is so lazy, it says, go ahead Piriformis you do the work.
The Piriformis then gets overworked, swells up and contracts causing you alot of pain.

Best advice, and I have done tons of research, Build your Glute muscles, REST your piriformis muscle. You use these muscles with almost EVERY movement your body makes. This is hard to do but can be done.

Good luck, if you dont get it under control, you will end up with scar tissue in the pirformis and then surgery is the only fix. Dont wait for too long if you get to that point, will be a tougher recovery.
