Miconazole, or any of the "-zole" preps found over the counter at your target/walmart/safeway, are for YEAST INFECTION. Trichomonas is a bacterial infection, tho they both share the characteristic of your body being invaded by an overgrowth of a living cell. BTW, you can get BV without having a sexual partner.
FLAGYL is a Rx only medicine. If this is your first vaginal infection (severe itching, main symptom), you MUST have an exam by doctor and you MUST have a swab done (lab test, to determine what you you are treating). Most likely it is a yeast infection, but if you treat yourself with miconizole and it doesn't clear up, go to Dr and tell her that. She will then do a slide of the cells and will be able to tell you if it is bacterial vaginosis. It's a matter of looking at a slide under the microscope. You don't have a waiting period to see if yeast cells will grow.
DO NOT PLAY AROUND WITH THIS, AS IT COULD LEAD TO INFERTILITY! AND you should NEVER accept "probably" in a medical diagnosis. Seriously? Report that doctor, or at least get a different one.
