Hi Anonymous-

You don't really say why you need to gain weight, and that would be a very important part of finding the way to do so. If you have some sort of medical problem that has you underweight or if you have anorexia or anything that may have put you into a state of malnutrition, you really should speak to a health care provider or licensed nutritionist to see what is safe for you or in what particular nutrients you may be deficient. For example, if you have bulemia and vomit a lot, you are probably low in potassium.

That being said, the best way to maintain a normal weight is to eat healthy foods and exercise. If you are underweight with muscle wasting, you may need more protein to help rebuild that muscle tissue. But again, I don't know what is going on medically and something like a kidney problem would rule out a high protein diet.

One of the best ways to gain weight is to increase your activity level, because this turns up your metabolism and makes you hungry. Then you follow with a healthy balanced diet. Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, a little healthy fat, plenty of fish, little red meat or pork.

We have some very good information here on the site on the weight management page: https://www.empowher.com/condition/weight-management But first, please see a health care provider to get an idea of your specific needs so you don't make yourself sick in your quest to gain weight.
