Thank you for sending the link. The primary suggestions for the diet that were mentioned in the article were to consume fiber-rich foods, and did mention that potassium-rich foods could help with bloating. I know that a potassium deficiency can lead to poor bowel conditions, but the article did not mention how much potassium you would need to consume to gain the positive effects of decreasing bloating. This is where I became skeptical of the article, since there was no specific information and no medical credentials by the author.

I have read that perhaps the reason the article mentions potassium as beneficial is because it can help with excess sodium in the body (I'll have to check and make sure this is accurate). If you are eating a healthy and balanced diet, you probably are already consuming enough potassium. I would not supplement with potassium, as it can have side effects on your circulatory system.

Primarily, avoiding foods high in sodium would reduce your need for "extra" potassium, and keeping a food diary to see if eating more bananas (potassium-rich food, for example) seems to help with your bloating and flatulence. If it works for you, that's great! It may not work for everyone.

Why are you worried about an endoscopy? This is a great tool, and could help you in relieving your symptoms and lead to effective treatments. Do you have any specific questions about this procedure?
