This article seems to be written under the assumption that infertility is a cause or source of stress...couldn't it be the other way around too, that infertility is caused by stress? It's firmly established that stress impacts the menstrual cycle.

I think it's important to be cautious at assigning cause and effect in cases like this. Often, it's likely that the causality goes both ways, with the two problems feeding off each other in a cycle.
