I've had this problem repeatedly of late. The pain and swelling may be due to cysts, which are surprisingly common - you'd think a cyst would be a noticeable lump on the outside you can feel, but not always; you can get them right inside. I had one painful, swollen melon which barely went down between my periods, and hurt the most on the outside. Turned out in the first five minutes of an ultrasound they had found three cysts inside which I could never have detected with my own hands. Apparently there were several more but they just stopped counting! A relief for me because I was convinced it was breast cancer. They gave me a gel called Darstin to rub on it daily until the pain stopped, which seemed to work, then as soon as I ran out it came back. Get your doctor to refer you to the mammogram unit - even though you're too young for regular mammograms (me too), they will probably do an ultrasound, which takes minutes, and will tell them what's going on in there. Good luck!
