Hi,
From the symptoms you describe, this is all well within what is considered normal for women's cycles. I know it is strange to have your cycle "suddenly" change, and if you are worried about it changing too much, please call your GYN just to rule out any medical concerns. (When was the last time you had your annual medical exam?).

Women's periods can be shorter or longer in duration, with heavier or lighter flow, and any color from red, pink, brown. There can be spotting or no spotting; pre-menstrual symptoms or none.

When you should call your doctor:
- excessive bleeding in which you soak more than one pad or tampon every hour
- bleeding that lasts for more than 7 days

Your hormones may be changing, and you may be experiencing more pre-menstrual symptoms (headaches, cramps, spotting). Are you using any type of hormonal contraceptive, as this can cause spotting (breakthrough bleeding) as well.

Let us know if you have any follow-up questions!
