I am a registered nurse and because of that, I was very skeptical of HCG. I did a lot of research on the product, watched Dr. Oz's You tube video segment on it, and searched for negative side effects. The only neg. comments I saw were ones from people who don't understand the diet and just think that the 500 cal is responsible for the weight loss. Of course, I was still concerned about the long-term effects of HCG but considering the fact that women can give birth multiple times (14 is the largest # I know of), and those women don't drop dead from all of the HCG floating around their bodies during pregnancy, I figured I give it a shot. Besides, I liked the fact that it's a natural hormone - unlike some of the other diets (which shall remain nameless) that are FULL of chemicals, processed foods and loaded with sodium.
Long story short - I am currently in Phase 3 of my first round of HCG. I ended the VLCD (Very low Calorie Diet...500 cal) phase last friday and my weight was 143. I started 45 days before that at 173.
I messed up and had chick peas in a salad on Fri and I gained 3.8 lbs overnight. I did a steak day as Dr. Simeons suggests and lost 2 of those lbs the following day. The bottom line is - HCG works. It may be a fad, it can be whatever you want to call it but it work. s.
By the way, I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis just before I went on the HCG. My L hip had been bothering me so much that I considered having a cortisone shot. My R knee has been aching ever since a fall a couple of years ago and I injured my L arm's rotator cuff in a fall in Jan. Within 3-4 days after starting the HCG injections, every ache and pain I had were gone. I had a feeling of happiness that I had not experienced in quite a long time. I found myself smiling at commercials that before I would have thought were schmaltzy or silly. So, I am here to tell you that HCG might not be for everyone but it worked for this 57 year old and I am excited to start living my life again at a weight I feel good at and to become active again. Oh yeah, my BP went from 140s over 90s to 127/74 at my last check. My next goal is to get off my cholesterol meds. Wish me luck!! Doctor, please read Pounds and Inches by Dr. Simeons. This diet is proven to work and it's been around...well, almost as long as me! Happy researching!
