Women can have many different colors of menstrual blood: brown, red, pink and any combination of those colors. It can be heavy, light, heavy..the flow amount can change over time, too. This is all within what would be considered normal.
I am not sure about the black, tarry, clotting stuff. Menstrual blood can be really dark, almost dark purple or even black. Menstrual blood also contains clumps of tissue from the uterine lining; it is not all just watery/liquid.
When you would need to call the doctor:
- If you have been experiencing bleeding for more than 7 days
Since you have asked previously about other reproductive questions, and are now experiencing bleeding that is going on 10 days, it sounds like it is time to call your gynecologist for a check-up/medical exam. Please let us know how it goes!
