If you have unprotected sex, you do have the risk of becoming pregnant at anytime during your cycle. Most women are fertile during the middle of their cycles, but cycles are not like clockwork and can change suddenly, or a woman can ovulate at an unexpected time.

For you, right now, you can tell us some more information. What was the date of your last period (first day of bleeding?). Your period may not be "late", if you are looking at just the calendar date. Women's cycles are between 21-35 days in length (average 28 days). Say your normal cycle is between 26-29 days long, then you will eventually have a period that begins later and later in the calendar month, since most months are between 30-31 days long. Does that make sense?

(To know your cycle length, "day 1" is the first day of bleeding during your period...and count days until the next first day of your period).

You may need to wait until your period begins, and this could be this week. If you do not have your period begin by this time next week, you can take a pregnancy test (it would not be effective any earlier).

I'm sorry to not be able to provide more reassurance, but anytime you have unprotected sex you run the risk of pregnancy. The timing of unprotected sex before your period means you had a lower chance of ovulating, and thus conceiving.

How are you feeling with this information?
