Not everyone has a financially based split of duties and responsibilities in a relationship. Being the backbone of the family does not mean being a mute slave to a wage earner. That sounds like a very 1800s way of thinking to me. If a couple agrees one will work and one will work at home, they are both doing their part and have equal say in everything. Otherwise it isn't much of a partnership.
