jcoll07 - First, we're glad you're under a doctor's care and working to determine what is causing your low estrogen levels. While the primary focus is usually on menopause, there are many other reasons why a young woman could have low estrogen levels. One is Turner Syndrome, a genetic disease that affects development and menstruation. Additional conditions that cause low estrogen levels in younger women include excessive exercise, eating disorders and too little body fat.

I don't want to alarm you, but I do want you to be aware that abnormal levels could signal the presence of ovarian or adrenal cancer. It is extremely important to be checked out and continue to work with your doctor.

The bottom line is that it's going to take some time and work to determine the cause of your multiple symptoms and your low estrogen levels. I know it can be hard to be patient, but getting the right diagnosis - and treatment - is very important.

Please let us know how you're doing as you go through the tests and if we can help you further. You're not alone.
