Hi Anonymous,
Anytime you forget to take your birth control pills and don't use a backup method of birth control (condom, spermicide, withdrawal), you put yourself at unnecessary risk for getting pregnant. So be sure to take your pills regularly to avoid any undue concern. If you find you have a lot of trouble remembering to take them, try to take them when you brush your teeth, or develop a similar habit of associating taking them with something you do roughly the same time every day.
In regard to your period, it is normal for you to have lighter or spottier periods when taking birth control, and they may be shorter in duration also. If you are continuously forgetting to take your pill, then then taking it late, or doubling up, etc., you can get what's called "breakthrough bleeding." Part of the beauty of taking birth control is that it is supposed to regulate your cycle. However, if you don't take it consistently, it won't be as predictable.
