My doctor has diagnosed me with progesterone deficiency (aka Estrogen Dominance). I am 38, soon to be 39 and have been having perimenopausal symptoms for the past year. I have always been in good, athletic condition and run and weight-train regularly. Over the past few months, I have lost my muscular "look" despite no changes to my routine or eating habits. I have also had extreme breast tenderness, ovarian cysts, and night sweats. My trainer swears I am losing fat and gaining muscle, but the scale is going up as well. I have also started to gain weight around the middle, someplace I never have before. Is this the lack of progesterone? I have heard horror stories about Depo-provera (aka: Hippo Provera) and am not sure if "Provera" is the same thing. I have the prescription for the 5mg to take days 14-28 of my cycle, but am hesitant because of the weight gain possibilities. Could someone shed some light on this?
