Hi Katie,
Thank you for your question and for finding EmpowHER. You have HPV, and cervical dysplasia. HPV is a virus that can be transmitted through sexual activity. It can "go away" on it's own, but by nature of it being a virus, it will remain in your system indefinitely--your body will keep it under control.
HPV causes cervical dysplasia. Did the doctor say how they plan to treat your dysplasia? There are a number of ways (a few of which I personally have had done, and are minimally painful). The condition is not life-threatening. I know it can be over-whelming when you first learn you have it. Learn all you can, so you can advocate for your health. It is super important that you keep up with your visits with your doctor, so any incidence of "bad cells" can be treated before they have any chance to turn cancerous. You don't have cancer, you have pre-cancerous cells that if treated, and you take care of yourself going forward, you could have a normal life as you desire. Hope the information helps.
