Most of the women in the Million Women Study used estrogen-progestin hormone formulations which are not naturally found in women's bodies, i.e., they are not bioidentical hormones. Progestins have been implicated in multiple studies as the components which are probably responsible for the increased risk of breast cancer, although CEE (oral equine estrogens) have also been implicated.
