Hi Anon,

Usually you would have to get the "go ahead" from your PCP. How long has it been since your Embolism? One thing to know is that the act of flying is not the culprit of embolisms but more so the duration of the flight. Because in a long 10-13 hour flight we spend the time mostly sitting, this is what causes the clot. If you had a PE, then I am assuming you were put on anticoagulants so this should help prevent clots. You can always add: drinking lots of fluids, compression stockings, and getting up to stretch, walk, etc.

How long is the flight? I don't see why your doctor would be hesitant to let you fly if it is relatively short but please do ask.

Good Luck!
