It depends on the severity of your symptoms, along with many other factors. Trusted doctors only prescribe treatments when the known benefits outweigh any possible risks. Premarin does have many possible side effects, but knowing your personal risk for these side effects is important (for instance, your family history of any medical conditions).

Would you like us to help you research other alternatives? If so, what specific symptoms do you have? If your symptoms are severe, and Premarin is working for you, the benefits probably do outweigh any possible risks, especially if you are using it in small doses and frequencies.

Have you talked with your doctor about other treatment alternatives?

We are happy to conduct more research as to treatment alternatives, so you can make a choice you feel confident about (if you choose Premarin or another treatment). You would still need to contact your doctor before changing your treatment, and before stopping the use of this medication.

Lastly, you can review the side effects and risks of Premarin at the PubMed site: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0000333/. This information should also be included with your prescription (patient information booklet), and this is a good idea to review regarding side effects you should be aware of.
