I came here in search of the same answer. However, somebody once told me that if you stand & drink the water goes into one kidney....and if you sit & drink, its divided equally to both kidneys and so it balances out the functions of the kidneys. Although i find complete logic in it but i still have to confirm if its true. And yes, my parents and teachers always told me to sit & drink. Its a part of mannerisms in islam and even the national cricket team of Pakistan sits and drinks water as taught in Islam. We know the reason is health benefits but not exactly what the benefits could be! So, i'm hunting for reasons now :D
