A big part of who a man becomes stems from his father. Growing up, just like women learn from their mother, men learn from their father.
This doesn't necessarily mean that if a man's father is not in his life, he will be a bad man or a poor father. Men also learn from other male influences in their lives so if your boy friend didn't have his father in his life look for the men he did have-- uncles, cousins, step-father, or close family friends, even. You can also learn a lot about him if he and his mother were very close-- a mother can be a big influence in a man's life too. Usually, a corrupted childhood occurs when the man's father abandons his family (not work related-- even though this could make a child wonder why daddy works so much) but it isn't quite fair to say that your boyfriend had a corrupted childhood because his father was always away for work--- he very well could have coped wonderfully with this.
Talking to your boy friend about this can help you have a better insight to his childhood and upbringing.
