Originally prescribed as an anti-seizure medication, Topamax/Topiramate has also been prescribed off-label to prevent migraines and to treat obesity as well. J&J’s recent recall affects a lot of these people, and it brings to light a lot of issues linked to the drug. It was found that pregnant women taking Topamax run the risk of having a child with birth defects such as a cleft lip and/or cleft palate. While this recall is separate from these potential health effects, Topamax lawsuits – http://www.sokolovelaw.com/legal-help/dangerous-drugs/anti-seizure/topamax - have become more frequent.
