I couldn't agree with you more, and that is why my post below regarding eye exams is something that is important to me. That Opthomologist is more on the "natural side" of dealing with health. And, she uses alternative FIRST, before anything else. Education, prevention, etc... is part of the office visit. Her vision is use PREVENTION, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY, and be EDUCATED. When I told her that using Reflexology had caused great concern from my reflexologist, as when she touch the "eye" area, I always went beserk. My dr. became very CONCERNED!! And from there, many of my issues were discovered. But, understanding "my body" and the "natural part of the body healing with the right tools", must be understood. There are great podcasts that do a great job in explaining how the immune system is responsible for illnesses and how to make it healthy, and the side effect is health. For some, it may be to late to be 100% of what you would to like to be, but it can bring some relief, and possibly, a better life. Take every word, every lab test, anything you don't understand, (even those you think you do!) and goggle it, look at WebMD, everything that is in YOUR own doctors magazines, and conferences. They can't argue something that is proven within their own "system". And repeating what was said in the above post, the health care community is overloaded with paperwork, and many other things that insurance companies and the government has put on them. Plus, the thought that they can be sued for looking at someone the wrong way, makes our doctors overly cautious, and afraid to step outside the box. They will be ostrisized by their own, and it's a hard pill for them to swallow. But, there are doctors who don't care, and who are willing to go against the grain, and use nature in a way that was given to us to heal and protect. Those doctors are hard to find, but they are out there, and I am so thankful. I never wanted to get on the "hampster wheel" of the health care system. But pain finally caused me to take that step, I hate it, yet, I have created a team that is what I need. Took 10 years, but I'm glad I knew to take my own health into my own hands....MY HEALTH, MY BODY, is given to me, and I am responsible for what I allow to be done. Sometimes, I had to give in, and sometimes I fought, but, I am ahead of most of the people in my same situation, because of not being a PERFECT, COMPLIANT person. That never gave me an excuse to be rude or be disrespectful. But it was my choice to decide what was in my best interest, and even if that DOCTOR was in my best interest. It's hard to do, especially when you feel crummy, and I feel for those who don't have family to support them in "out of the box" decisions. It's hard, but it is YOUR LIFE. I've been employeed IN the medical system, and now a patient. There are many doctors who are frustrated, because if they do what they know could be helpful, but it is "outside the box" of what our culture believes or is advertised, they can be sued and their license can be on the line. I have seen doctors walk out of a room, and deflate....with remorse and say, "I had to give in to them, but now, we are looking at a Cesarean, and that is exactly what they don't want or need". But, the uneducated public has made it very hard, also, on doctors to do what they know is best. Some are in it for the money, but some are really trying to fulfill their calling. Uneducated patients who aren't willing to educate themselves, put their own health on the line. And for some doctors, THAT is hard to swallow. So, there are both sides of the story.....but if doctors could practice in the way they "can do no harm", it would not be involving the insurance companies or pharmacutical companies who have more control than the doctors. Something is wrong with this picture, and most likely it won't change. BUT, WE CAN CHANGE OUR WAY OF THINKING!! We can think for ourselves!! :)
Best wishes and a strong inner self,
A long term Chronic Pain Patient.
