The timing of the HPT is also important, and it sounds like you are trying to conceive (so you are hopeful that the test was inaccurate, right?).

If you tested at the time of your missed period (at least 2 weeks after unprotected sex), the HPT is about 99% accurate at detecting any "pregnancy hormones".

Your other symptoms of increased bowel movements can be a sign or symptom of numerous conditions...or no condition at all. Early pregnancy symptoms and pre-menstrual symptoms are almost identical, and changes in bowel movements can be hormone-related (either pregnancy or pre-menstrual). However, it could also be a sign of stress, diet, illness, new medication, upset stomach...the list goes on.

If you are trying to conceive, and your period is 9 days late, you may choose to test again in another week if your period does not begin. As Rosa said...women can miss a period and it does not necessarily indicate a pregnancy or any other condition, if you used the HPT at the appropriate time (mentioned above).
