Hi anon,
I remember my first year of graduate school, I was in a new state without knowing anyone there. I was also having trouble at home because I was in a relationship that wasnt approved at home. However, the ways I used to deal with cycles of depression, lonliness, and homesickness was that I would explore the new town I had relocated myself in, enjoyed my own apartment having the freedom to live life the way how I wanted to, and finally using skype was a great tool. I also then joined America Reads and met one of my best friends/future roommates in the process who is currently dating my cousin. Since then, my university town became one of the best places I have lived in. Now that I have moved back home ready for another transition and to do my Phd applications as well. I miss my independent life I had back home,
Instead of giving in to sadness, fight it. Explore the world for its beauty and enjoy the time at a university campus. Trust me its a world on its own. I would do anything to be in my own apartment back at my graduate school any day! :) Good luck and do keep us posted!
