Keep in mind too that the 'period' on the pill is withdrawal bleeding, not true menstruation - if your cycles are irregular it may be down to an underlying health problem, if this is the case then the problem will remain untreated while on hormonal birth control and may return once you stop taking the hormonal birth control.
