I got chills when you mentioned removing the dry tampon because I find it to be so uncomfortable!
Sometimes you may notice that your string has blood but your tampon doesn't have enough because the string may find itself inside every now and then and remember that the tampon itself was created to absorb your blood, the string wasn't. So although the string may appear to be saturated, it really takes very little blood for this saturated appearance. You can try to prevent this by always making sure that your string remains on the outside.
