Hi Beej,

Welcome to EmpowHER!

A stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is blocked (called ischemic stroke). Pregnancy can increase your chances for blood clots and if that clot breaks off, then that is what causes a stroke. Whether or not this was the case in your situation, is not up to me to say, however it is a possibility.

In order to improve any damage that the stroke has left you with, you should be getting:

Physical therapy—to regain as much movement as possible
Occupational therapy—assist in every day tasks and self care
Speech therapy—to improve swallowing and speech challenges

Unfortunately, because you have such a hard time exercising, you may have to limit your physical activity to short walks daily until you are able to gradually increase the duration of your walks. The good news is that losing weight is 70% what you eat. So, if you were to follow a healthy, well-balanced diet you are likely to see a change in the scale.

Here's a group you may find helpful: https://www.empowher.com/groups/LOSE-EIGHT-POUNDS-EMPOWERHER-WAY

Best of luck!
