Unfortunately, we cannot tell you how many hours it takes for a pill to start working-- this isn't common knowledge because a birth control pill is not like taking tylenol. You should be taking it for two weeks straight before it reaches its maximum effectiveness-- missing pills decreases its effectiveness but this doesn't mean you didn't have some protection so you may still be safe from pregnancy. The reason why we can't absolutely tell you that you are safe from pregnancy is because nobody will know this and because you did miss 2 pills.
You can take a pregnancy test two weeks after the date that you had unprotected sex to determine whether or not you're pregnant if you plan on continuing your next pack because of your trip.
