Hi Anon,

Great question! First of all, you are not alone. It is very common to feel sleepy in the afternoon, or have an afternoon slump, and there are a few reasons for it. However, it may only be possible for you to figure it out (a fun little process of elimination). Oftentimes, there is nothing  seriously wrong, and a few simple changes can help.

Be sure to pay attention and really start to get to know your body. Asking a few questions can help:

Are you getting enough sleep? What did you eat for breakfast? Lunch? Are you extra stressed? Are you hydrated? Physically tired or just mentally? Did you exercise the previous day? Are you eating lots of processed foods? Excess sugars?

I find that the more processed foods I eat, the more tired I am. This can be hard at first because your body often craves these things for quick energy when you're tired. Try eating more fresh, raw, whole foods and avoid large heavy meals. B vitamins are another great natural source of energy. Stretch, get some fresh air, and think positive!

If absolutely nothing helps, it may be best to visit a doctor.

I hope this helps.

Best,

Danielle.
