Hi Anon,

I'm sorry to hear about what your family is currently going through. A seizure can occur at any moment or depending on the seizure, it can be preceded by an aura or a trigger. The best person to consult about your mom's current state to fly by air is her surgeon and primary care doctor.

As far as what you can do while she is having a seizure-- If she is falling you can help avoid a head injury by easing her down to the floor and adjusting her head to the side to avoid aspiration. Do not attempt to stop the seizure, do not put your fingers in her mouth...just let it pass. If you can time it and it is lasting longer than 3 minutes, please call 911. If it is a typical seizure lasting no more than 90 seconds, then there is no need to call for emergency help-- just make sure that she's safe from injury and offer her a quiet place to sit or rest.

Here is a great resource to help you help your mom during and after a seizure:

Best Wishes to you and your family,
