Hi Anon,

Welcome to EmpowHER.  Vulvodynia is chronic pain in the area around the opening of your vagina (vulva) for which there is no identifiable cause.

The main vulvodynia symptom is pain in your genital area, which can be characterized by:

Burning

Soreness

Stinging

Rawness

Painful intercourse (dyspareunia)

Throbbing

Itching

Vulvodynia treatments focus on relieving symptoms.

Medications. Tricyclic antidepressants or anticonvulsants may help lessen chronic pain. Antihistamines may reduce itching.

Local anesthetics. Medications, such as lidocaine ointment, can provide temporary symptom relief.

Nerve blocks. Women who have long-standing pain that doesn't respond to other treatments may benefit from local injections of nerve blocks.

It's important to discuss with your doctor as to which treatment would be best for you.

Here are some resources for you
