My name is Suzi. I have been a sober alcoholic since May 23, 1986. I was also a prescription drug abuser. That was back in the day before everything was on computer systems. It was so easy to go from doctor to doctor, getting the same prescription. Anyway, I finally was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I was 33 when I put the bottle down (liquor and pill) and I'm 62 now. It was not easy to stop drinking, I had tried many times on my own, with no success. I made the decision to go to a 12 step program. I was a daily drinker, so I went to meetings everyday, it was as simple as that. Alcoholism is not a disease to mess with. It can kill you. I have lost many friends over the years to the disease. I can tell you my life has been wonderful in sobriety. I have traveled the world. Saw more than bars in other countries.....I saw everything. Because I was in a 12 step program I met people all over the place, went to meetings in the bush in Australia, in a church tower in England. I toured the cathedral the next day. As for my pill problem. If you're taking your medicine in a manner than is not prescribed on your pill bottle, you need to seriously look at that.
