Hi ajpalmer3,

Thanks for sharing your question on EmpowHER! I understand it must be somewhat nerve-wracking to miss some pills and figure out when to start next. I spoke with a local pharmacist and got some information for you on this concern.

Since six days is quite a few days to miss your active pills, start at day 1 of your new pill pack today and don't double up on any pills. Begin your pack as you would with any new pack of birth control pills. After taking the first pill today, continue taking one pill each day at the same time. If you miss one or two days of pills it is ok to double up until you catch up, but six pills is too many to catch up on.

Since you have missed six days of active pills, be sure to use back-up protection like a condom if you have sex. Most likely, your system or your next period will not be on regular schedule due to missing pills. If you experience any changes in your period this month, it is completely normal due to the change in taking pills.

If you ever have any big concerns regarding birth control pills you can also always call a local pharmacy like Walgreens or CVS for immediate inquiries.

I hope this helped and please let me know if you have any concerns while starting your birth control pills again.

Best,

Erin
