Hi Hayden,

Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community! Diet definitely plays a role in managing psoriasis. I hope some of the recommendations I make are food items that you like and are already eating so that you won't have to adjust too much! 

A low fat diet that is high in fruits and vegetables can help you to manage the symptoms of psoriasis. Fruits and vegetables are excellent sources of antioxidants and help the skin tremendously. Leafy greens and carrots are ideal. Just note that cooking with Omega-6 fatty acids commonly found in vegetable oils can cause inflammation. If you want to stir fry your veggies, choose an olive oil or canola oil. Another good source for antioxidants that are rich in Vitamin A and C are blueberries, oranges and cantaloupes.

When it comes to choosing protein, avoid fatty red meats and opt for lean cuts of red meat and white meat like chicken and pork. Fish is also an excellent addition to your diet and I recommend eating it at least twice a week. Some great options are salmon, albacore tuna, herring, mackerel, anchovies, and trout.
