Hi Anon,

Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community! So sorry you are dealing with uncomfortable pain on your left buttock, hip and knee during the night. That must be very frustrating to experience, especially while you are trying to sleep.

Do you ever feel these pains during the day, or is it just at night you are experiencing them? Sometimes, some people's joints are more sensitive than others. It is possible that lying so long in the same place at night is irritating your buttocks, hip and knee during the night. Try using a pillow for support under your legs. Or you can put a pillow between your knees for extra support. That may help ease pain.

That is a good idea to try a new mattress, as sometimes that is the culprit of pain while sleeping. Did you get a harder or softer mattress? Sometimes memory foam can help ease pain while sleeping. You can always try a memory foam mattress topper (which is much cheaper than a full memory foam mattress) to see if that helps reduce pain at all.

Sometimes joint pain can be cause by arthritis. I would suggest setting up an appointment with your doctor. They will be able to determine what exactly is causing you joint pain while you are sleeping, and hopefully help you get a better rest at night.

Here is a similar post from an EmpowHER community member who was experiencing hip pain at night: https://www.empowher.com/community/ask/why-do-i-get-hip-pain-night. There question and answer may be able to help provide some more help for the pain you are suffering at night.

I hope this helped! Please keep me updated and let me know if your pain is able to improve.

Best,
Erin
