Hi Anon,

Thank you for reaching out within the EmpowHER community to help your mother after her hysterectomy! It is very common for women to experience short term memory loss such as the examples that you provided about your mother's situation. In fact, the founder and CEO of EmpowHER had the exact same thing happen to her!!!

The hormone imbalance that resulted from her hysterectomy was the core issue that caused her memory loss. Since so many hormones are taken away, it's not surprising that your mom is in a bit of a fog. Michelle began taking hormone replacements, but it took her 9 different visits and 9 different doctors to get the hormone treatment right. But, the good news is that once she found the right treatment plan AND right doctor, her memory improved and she tells women DON'T GIVE UP!

Moving forward, your mother needs to really take control of her health and make sure she gets a doctor that is willing and able to treat her post-hysterectomy. You are an amazing daughter and I am so delighted that you are taking an active role in trying to help your mom. Not all moms are this lucky!!

I would suggest to you to take some time while your mom is recovering and research the EmpowHER site about her condition so that you can walk this journey with her. I included a link to Michelle King Robson's (the Founder of EmpowHER) experience to share with you. I also included the link to a Fox News Article where her experience was published.

The other link I included is about other women's reactions to the same experience.

Anon, did this help you? We are her for you and your mother. If you take a moment to register on the EmpowHER site, we can keep in better touch and help you through this confusing time.

Best,

Kristin
