EmpowerHER had the same question and went to an expert for answers - Dr. Irwin Goldstein, Director of San Diego Sexual Medicine at Alvarado Hospital, the Secretary of the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health, a former President of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America and a Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of California at San Diego.
He provided the following information: in terms of longevity, you can show that people who are sexually active live longer. In terms of blood pressure management, you can show that people who are sexually active have lower blood pressure. In terms of stress and anxiety, you can show that people who have sexual activity regularly have less stress and anxiety.
If you look at the reaction of your blood pressure and pulse response to say giving a lecture in front of an audience that you are not comfortable with, you can show that that person who had sexual activity the night before will have less high blood pressure and pulse response to giving that lecture than someone who has not had sexual activity. You can show things of well-being and ego and many psychological benefits.
Now here’s some interesting ones – breast cancer – how crazy is this, but a series of studies, several of them, have shown that women who are sexually active have less breast cancer risk than women who aren’t sexually active and for men there are several studies showing a similar benefit in prostate cancer. Men who are sexually active have less risk of prostate cancer.
I guess you could argue that whatever fluids are in the breast and the prostate, at least from the prostate’s point of view, the more ejaculations the less risk of cancer, but I think more research clearly needs to be done, but getting closer to God and having sexual activity is probably something that God intended us to do.
