Hello, Yes, the sperm would be dead. But the life of the sperm is not really what is important. The fact is, that dead or alive, putting sperm near or on a vagina will never cause pregnancy. The science simply does not work that way. You must actually ejaculate into her vagina during penetration in order for there to be a chance of pregnancy. Even when that happens it still does not guarantee that she will conceive. I hope this gives you a better idea.
