If you catch thyroid issues early it is easy to prevent the weight gain.  The most important thing to remember is not to starve yourself and eat normal portions of food.  When you don't eat regularly your body starts to hold onto to body fat and you gain weight instead of loose it.  

Your doctor will be able to tell you if you need any medical treatment depending on the condition of your thyroid.  Sometimes medications or even surgery is necessary.
