It depends on what you are trying to prevent. If you want to prevent pregnancy, then yes. But if yu are trying to prevent STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections), then not so much. You can spread or contract Clamydia, HIV , gonorrhea, syphillis, to name a few, thru oral sex.
You can decrease the chances of giving or getting STIs during oral sex can be lowered by using a condom or dental dam.
