Within those 12 - 16 days is the ovulation period, which is the most fertile time for a woman. Since all cycles differ, women can ovulate anywhere from day 11 to day 21, according to the American Pregnancy Association. The day your period is due then would not be considered your time of ovulation since that is day 1.
