Emergency contraceptives are up to 95% effective when taken as prescribed within the first 24 hours, so the risk is very small. Side effects can include stomach aches, headaches, nausea and/or vomiting, a general feeling of being unwell. Symptoms usually start 3-7 days after taking the medication and may or may not include bleeding or spotting. Not all women get symptoms. Some get many, or a few, or none. She had bleeding so this is typically a sign that the Postinor 2 worked. It won't protect her if she has unprotected sex at another time. It would have to be taken again. It should only be used for emergencies and not as regular birth control. My advice is to use a condom and have your girlfriend think about getting on birth control. If she is still feeling ill, she should call her doctor.
