Hello Anon

Thank you for writing.

I don't know what you mean by "I got a match" but you don't have to marry anyone you don't want to. We cannot advice someone whether they should marry a certain person.

Chronic Myeloid Leukemia is a slowly progressing and uncommon type of blood-cell cancer. Most affected can enjoy a normal lifespan, so having a family with a life partner with children is doable. But not all people will do well with this disease. The outcome cannot be predicted.

CML, one of the four leukemias, is a slowly progressing cancer of the blood and bone marrow characterized by an overproduction of white blood cells. Normal cells are formed, mature, function, die, and are replaced with new cells. With CML the normal blood cell production process is disrupted. The white blood cells produce uncontrollably and do not mature to carry out their intended function and ultimately crowd out the healthy cells.

According to the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health:

"Approximately 10% of individuals with CLL report a family history of CLL or a related lymphoproliferative disorder, and genetic predisposition is the best understood risk factor for CLL." - so there may be some risk involved.

You need to talk to a specialist about this to know more. You may also be taking on a role of caregiver to your husband, which you may be fine with - or not. It depends how his CLL progresses. In many cases, people have a relatively normal life. This is something you and this man need to talk about.

Best,
Susan
