HERWriter Guide

Hello JM2424

Thank you for writing.

Our hormones dictate our periods and menstrual cycle so clearly there is a disruption of hormones if you only get a period once a year.
Your doctor will likely check for polycysic ovaries (PCOS) or other conditions that can cause this.
Your appointment is in a matter of days, try not to worry now since this has been going on for so long. Your doctor will likely take blood samples and possibly order scans. The sooner you know what is going on, the sooner you can discuss treatment. Your doctor may also be able to give you medication to stop the prolonged bleeding.
Best,
Susan
