The activities you are talking about can certainly lead to ill-health.
Marines aren't actually exposed to mustard gas or other gasses - they do training in gas chambers but are wearing masks. The only gas they could be exposed to is tear gas but that doesn't have lingering effects.
Round-up has certainly been named as dangerous for anyone around it.
People working in HVAC should be well protected.
