High enzymes may mean inflammation in the liver.

This can be caused by a variety of viruses (including Hepatitis) or medications. Drinking alcohol can temporarily raise levels too.
Even a medication like Advil can raise enzymes. If he has been taking it for pain or a sports injury, this may explain higher levels.
Ask your son about this and his doctor can also offer further explanations.
