Rusting appliances should be replaced, if only that's it's a sign they have worn down and have had their time.

As to health hazards - we don't have information on our site to let you know if studies are known to have found this the case. But since you are cooking below it, you wouldn't have much of a risk - your body and food has no contact with the microwave. A rust stain on the window of a microwave isn't likely to cause your symptoms. However, replacing the microwave will let you know if it was the cause.

Have you had your apartment checked for mold? Does your area have any issues with water contamination? Could you have heavy metals poisoning? This is something you need to chat about with your doctor. Let us know more-
