An inguinal hernia occurs when tissue pushes through a weak spot in your groin muscle. This causes a bulge in the groin or scrotum. The bulge may hurt or burn. If you have a small inguinal hernia, you can first try to treat it at home. Home treatments include lying down and carefully pushing the hernia back behind the abdominal muscles or icing the hernia until it slides back. But you say you have had this for 6 years. I would recommend seeing your doctor. Until then, avoid heavy lifting, and limit binding foods that can cause constipation or hard stool (white bread, rice, boiled potatoes, unripe banana, red meat etc).
